The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) will be holding a national listening session on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at 3:00 pm eastern time to gather feedback from Tribal leaders, Tribal members, behavioral and mental health professionals, counselors, other professionals that work in this area, and community members about the impact of COVID-19 on intimate partner violence (IPV) and child abuse. The discussion will focus on how the stress that individuals and families are feeling during the pandemic can potentially increase IPV and/or child abuse, what can be done to mitigate and prevent any violence or abuse, and what strategies Tribes are implementing to support and safeguard their citizens.
We invite people to share what they are seeing, and what they are doing to successfully confront the issues within their Tribes. We will use the information and stories shared during the call to create supportive materials for Tribes and families. This call is not for the press or for federal agency staff.
