On February 2, 2021, The Department of Commerce released a Dear Tribal Leader Letter announcing a tribal consultation series on the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Grants Program established by H.R. 133 The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. The program provides $1 billion in federal grants funding to tribal governments, tribal colleges and universities, tribal organizations, ANCs, and the Department of Hawaiian homelands to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbating the digital divide across Indian Country.

The Act directs the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to make grants available to eligible entities within short time frames. Tribal leaders are invited to participate in the National Tribal Consultation to provide their advice and insights as NTIA staff work through the critical issues related to the program regarding implementation and administration.
